Air Force and Navy Have Novel Strategies for Meeting the China Threat
Inspired by this recent Defense News article.
It’s fairly clear that the Air Force and Navy view the China threat as equally pressing.
On the Air Force side, Secretary Kendall noted that “We are being more effectively challenged than at any other time in our history [and that] his top priorities in order … are China, China, and China.”
On the Navy side, Secretary Del Toro issued strategic guidance where he acknowledged China as a “strategic competitor who possesses naval capabilities that rival our own” while expressing extreme worry at the growing pace of shipbuilding and other capabilities that could threaten U.S. naval forces.
This report from the Office of Naval Intelligence provides more details on the PLA Navy threat. Air University, in collaboration the Air Force's China Aerospace Studies Institute also published a primer on the PLA Air Force threat. This is reinforced by DoD’s annual report to Congress on the military and security developments of China.
